About Nousu

Nousu (meaning ascent) is a registered scuba diving club, which was founded in 1990 in Espoo. There are about 220 members in the club.

Nousu holds 1 - 3 diving courses, all in Finnish only, each year. Introduction dives are arranged according to demand, and some have been held in English.

During the active diving season from early May till late October, many diving camps are held, ranging from weekend trips to some of the numerous lakes of Finland to a whole-week camp at Hanko, the southernmost point of Finland and a popular scuba diving location. In the winter time, ice diving is a favorite passtime for several club members ( see pictures in our KuvaGalleria. )

Apart from the diving camps, the club's skippers take members on diving trips to locations nearby during the week or weekends. The club owns two boats: Puntti, which carries a maximum of 10 divers and Nousutar, which carries a maximum of 6 divers with equipment.

Nousu's activities include also trips to maritime museums, diving expositions, pressure chambers and anything else that are associated with scuba diving. Nousu has links to several scuba diving clubs around Finland as well as the Search and Rescue association of Espoo. Many events are held together with these organizations. All coming events can be read from the club's newsletter, Nousukas, which is also published in these www-pages.

From August till June, all club members are welcome to a free swimming pool time on Wednesday evenings at 8:30 - 10 p.m. at Leppävaara swimming pool. That is also where the junior members (aged 10 - 14) actively play uw-rugby in guidance of Sami Reijonen, an ex-Finnish champion in the game himself.
